What is Estrogen Dominance? (And How to Reduce it Naturally)
Estrogen dominance is a hot topic in the infertility world and everyone knows you need balanced hormones in order to get pregnant. Estrogen dominance is having too much estrogen in relationship to the amount of progesterone. Estrogen imbalance of hormones can cause anovulation ( failure to ovulate), irregular periods, thickening of the uterine lining as well as dysregulation of progesterone. If you do get pregnant it can also leas to early miscarriage. It is also the cause for many infertility diagnosis such as; endometriosis, uterine fibroids and PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome).

What you may not know is there are many ways that you can reduce your estrogen naturally (and also keep your testosterone from converting to estrogen).
If you have been diagnosed with estrogen dominance and think that your testosterone might be converting to estrogen here are some foods to avoid and others that you can add to help naturally balance your hormones.

Foods to Add to Your Diet:
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Cabbage
Brussel Sprouts
Whole Grains
Fiber
Beans/ Legumes
Omega-3 fatty acids (wild salmon)
Walnuts
Chia Seeds
Flax Seeds

Foods to AVOID:
Processed Sugar (especially corn syrup)
Processed Foods
Alcohol (taxes the liver)
Soy Products

Hydration
All of the foods listed above either support healthy liver function or they tax it causing your liver not to be able to process your hormones as efficiently. This is why avoiding alcohol if your are having problems conceiving is especially important. It also explains why in for some women alcohol consumption is problematic. Optimized liver health is also why being properly hydrated is so important (for help with hydration join our Water Warrior challenge in our FB support group Infertility Empowered) Your water goal should be half your body weight in ounces.

Physical Movement
Increasing physical movement of any kind is helpful in supporting body function and especially the liver and in turn hormone function. This could mean parking in the farthest spot from the entrance for work or errands, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, spending half your lunch break taking a brisk walk or doing sets of squats during your favorite evening programing. The point is any and every increase in your physical movement is going to help you reach your goals, especially if you haven't been exercising at all.

Sleep
Getting quality sleep (between 7-9 hours) is crucial for maintaining hormonal balance and overall health, particularly when dealing with estrogen dominance. During deep sleep, the body undergoes vital restorative processes that regulate hormone production, including balancing cortisol levels and ensuring the synthesis of crucial hormones like melatonin and growth hormone. Good sleep supports the body’s ability to detoxify and metabolize excess estrogen, which can help alleviate symptoms of estrogen dominance such as mood swings, weight gain, and irregular menstrual cycles. By prioritizing restful sleep, you can create a more harmonious endocrine environment, promoting better health and well-being. For tips on good sleep hygiene join Infertility Empowered.

Stress Managment
I always say about infertility "if you can't cope, you can't continue" but you can't just WILL yourself not to be stressed. Stress management plays a crucial role in addressing estrogen dominance and infertility. In the NurturePath Fertility Incubator program, our team provides holistic approaches to these issues. That's why the program includes Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT), both offered by our team of trained professionals. These powerful methods help reduce stress and emotional blockages, fostering a more balanced hormonal environment essential for fertility. By incorporating EFT and AFT into your routine (and having them available as pocket tools), you can support your journey toward hormonal harmony and enhanced fertility.

Toxins
In today's world, reducing exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and other hormone-disrupting toxins can feel overwhelming. If you feel like they're everywhere your right. BUT that doesn't mean that you can't systematically make changes that will optimize your fertility. These chemicals, often found in everyday products like plastics, personal care items (cosmetics, body washes and hair products), and even some foods, can interfere with our body's natural hormone balance. One effective way to minimize their impact is by choosing natural, organic alternatives whenever possible. Look for products labeled free of phthalates, parabens, and BPA, and most importantly anything labeled "fragrance" which alone can include up to thirteen hundred individual chemicals. But beware! You must read the actual ingredient label in order to validate the product is "fragrance free".
